In 2019 we partnered with Dave O’Connor from Wild West Sailing in Sligo on his ‘Fair Winds’ sailing programme. We sponsored teenagers resident in Direct Provision in Sligo to take part in a sailing course on J24 boats in Lough Gill.
The J24 is the most popular racing yacht in the northwest of Ireland. The Metal Mariners group in Sligo were on hand to support students wanting to go on to crew in these boats more regularly after the course.
The young people who took part had an amazing time, and we are keen to support more young people in Sligo next year. You can learn more about the Fair Winds programme here.
